Tour for Expectant Parents Martha Jefferson offers a tour to those considering or planning to deliver their baby at Martha Jefferson Hospital. It introduces you to our Family Centered Maternity Care Unit, including the birthing area, nursery and postpartum rooms. The tour assists you in preparing for the actual hospital experience. Maternity Case Management Program This program provides services that can be individualized to each family's needs, including education, referral to community resources and nursing services such as a postpartum home visit. Our Maternity Care Coordinators are experienced Family Centered Maternity Care Registered Nurses, who have been specially trained in case management. Your Maternity Care Coordinator will work closely with you and your physician or certified nurse midwife (CMW) to ensure you receive the services that would be most beneficial to you and your family. Preparation for Childbirth Prepare yourself and your support person for the birth of your baby. This series of classes includes the following topics: understanding and managing the different stages of labor through relaxation, labor positions and breathing techniques; medication options; and Caesarean birth. A certified childbirth instructor conducts classes. Register early for classes since space is limited and classes fill quickly. The series consists of five, weekly sessions. Pediatric & Infant CPR Because you never know when an emergency may occur, it's wise to be prepared. Through this course, which consists of lectures and practice on mannequins, you have the opportunity to become trained in Infant & Child Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR). The course will include pediatric safety, foreign body airway obstruction and causes of pulmonary and cardiac arrest in children. Registration is required; there is a fee. | Sibling Tour Becoming a big sibling is a big deal! This tour lets children visit our Family Centered Care Unit before the big day to get comfortable with the environment surrounding their mother's hospital stay and their new baby's arrival. They will be provided with age-appropriate information regarding safety, infant care and what they can expect from their new baby sister or brother.
